Pixel Buds picking up new features in addition to audio cutout fixes next month – 9to5Google
Google’s 2nd-generation Assistant headphones went on sale in nine countries today as part of an international launch. Pixel Buds fixes…
Google’s 2nd-generation Assistant headphones went on sale in nine countries today as part of the international launch. Next month will see more colors become available, as well as a Feature Drop-level update for Pixel Buds that adds new features and fixes audio cutouts.
Not counting a day one, out-of-the-box upgrade, there have been two firmware releases since launch for the Pixel Buds. The first did not introduce any noticeable changes, while the latest one addressed audio hissing. Besides patches, Google plans on introducing “new helpful features over time” for its Assistant headphones that are analogous to Pixel phone Feature Drops.
That first major update is set for “late August,” though Google wearable head Sandeep Waraich did not specify what functionality is coming in an interview with Forbes:
Our next release will have a combination of new featuresand then we’ll also have performance improvements in terms of more stability coming into the product.”
We previously spotted work on “attention alerts” that could detect smoke alarms, barking and crying, while Google previously said that headphones will appear in the Find My Device app.
Meanwhile, the company last month committed to implementing the following Pixel Buds fixes:
- Decrease instances of phone call cut outs
- Improve autorecovery when one or both earbuds lose connection
- Improve media playback stability for phones that have software audio encoding
Waraich pins the primary issue of audio cutouts to the nature of Bluetooth and the physical design of truly wireless earbuds (TWEs) constraining antenna size. That said, he does acknowledge “corner cases” and that Google is planning to address them:
It could be corner cases where it’s just a certain things would trigger the buds to crash.
Switch firmware updated to Version 10.1.0 – GoNintendo
More stable than ever
Every time I see one of these updates I hoped Nintendo learned common sense and added fucking folders to organize my 300 or so apps, only to see they never do so
I swear to god, I’m worried they’ll release them right before Switch 2 is announced, and then THAT will launch with no folders whatsoever. 😐 It’s ludicrous, folders on switch are taking longer than they did for 3DS and Wii U.
OnePlus is giving away the first ten Nord 5G smartphones via Twitter – PhoneArena
OnePlus is offering fans a chance to win a special edition Nord device via its official social media channel.
To enter the giveaway, youll need to retweet and like the post, and then fill out an online form. It appears that anyone over the age of 18 can receive one entry, though travel papers to Paris are apparently also required in order to be eligible, for some reason. The giveaway will evidently be accepting entries until June 21, Nords official launch date, rolls around. The ten winners will be announced on the same date, after the launch event. The tweet has already amassed over 16,000 retweets and nearly 19,000 likes, showing the amount of hype looming behind the companys newest mid-ranger.The included image doesnt include any other details other than the OnePlus logo and gently curved sides, but the copious leaks that have surfaced over the past weeks leave little to the imagination, and even spec announcements are likely to be almost perfunctory.
OnePlus Nord specs & leaks
The OnePlus Nord is expected to have impressive specs for its low price point, which could start at $299, including a Snapdragon 765G chipset, 8 or 12GB of RAM, and a 6.4-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a built-in fingerprint sensor. OnePlus is also evidently putting a lot of focus on the phones camera systems, with a quad-lens camera setup adorning the devices back. The 48MP main shooter sports optical image stabilization, while additional wide-angle, macro, and depth-sensing cameras round out the phones photographic prowess. On the front side, the Nord packs a 32MP selfie shooter and an ultra-wide 105° lens for group selfies.
Theres also a 4,115mAh battery and OnePluss signature 30T Warp Charging to keep the show on the road for as long as possible and as quickly as possible. All things considered, the Nord is shaping up to be a highlight release of the yearespecially when you consider that its most comparable competitors are the pretty but disappointingly pricey LG Velvet, or the upcoming Pixel 4a, which has been delayed numerous times this year.
The Nord also harkens back to OnePluss own ideals in the early days of the company, back when it debuted the OnePlus One and threatened the big players with its first Flagship Killer. Over a number of years, the next OnePlus devices slowly shifted from good devices at excellent prices to excellent devices at good prices.
With the OnePlus Nord, the company is apparently trying to reclaim the upper-midrange segment with a compellingly-priced, feature-packed package. Unfortunately, the US is evidently not within the Nords target market, as the device wont be released here, but the possibilities are apparently still open for future iterations of the device.
However, the special giveaway does seem to be open in the States as well, meaning this might be the only official way to get your hands on one for the time being. In any case, itll be exciting to see the Nord make its official debut on the 21st. And hey, the giveaways open for the six days between now and then, so shoot your shot while you can.
